By on July 23, 2013

In the endlessness of Hong Kong’s shopping malls and restaurants, it can be difficult to find something appropriate to do with your kids at the weekend or on school holidays. HKYantoYan looks at three fun child-friendly things to do in the Hong Kong.

1. Enjoy a paddle boat ride at Wong Nai Chung Reservoir Park

For a nominal fee, you can rent a paddle boat and relax in the peacefulness of the man-made lake. Chase after the ducks and turn it into an adventure for the kids. There’s a local restaurant and a refreshment kiosk if you feel peckish.

Top tip: Take a loaf of bread and feed small pieces to the fish and ducks.

How to get to get there: Take bus number 6 from Exchange Square Terminus in Central until you arrive at Wong Nai Chung Gap Road. Walk up the slope towards Parkview and the park is on your right.

2. Take a tram ride around Hong Kong Island

Costing only a few dollars, the tram is one of the cheapest forms of transport there is. Sit on the top deck and soak in the sights and sounds of the island. No doubt, it will be a learning experience for both you and the kids as you discover parts of Hong Kong that you may not have been to before. Click here for details of the tram routes.

Top tip: Bring a camera and take snaps of your discoveries.

Helpful hint: The trams have narrow passageways and staircases so it is difficult to bring along your child’s stroller for the journey. It might be best to leave it at home.

3. Snoopy’s World

This magical world is split into six different zones, including a canoe ride. The giant Snoopy that sits reclining on top of its famous doghouse is the largest outdoor model Snoopy in the world, and a great photo op. Wander around this mini amusement park and get some fresh air with your kids.

Entry: Free.

How to get there: Take the MTR to Sha Tin station, and come out at Exit A. Walk through the shopping mall (New Town Plaza), and follow the signs to Snoopy’s World.
