A five minute bus ride away from the New Maritime Ferry terminal, nestled in the heart of the city is Grand Lapa Macau, a premium luxury resort. The lobby decorated in muted tones of brown, with a grand stairway right in the middle exudes an old world charm that is warm and welcoming.

The one-bedroom suites are on the 18th floor, with a choice of views over the city or the pool. Interestingly, the television sets are traditional CRTs, that reminded me a lot of the 80’s. The room is archaic, not quite what one would expect from a hotel in today’s time however the suites are spacious, with two bathrooms, ideal for a family.
There is a wide variety of dining options at the Grand Lapa which will leave you spoilt for choice. Kam Lai Heen serves Cantonese cuisine, with a great range of dim sums and a surprising spread of vegetarians dishes (if ordered in advance).
NAAM, the Thai restaurant, is located by the pool, with both indoor and outdoor seating. If you’re craving for some spice, the curries at the restaurant will satisfy your palate; while sweet lovers must try the Mor Kaeng Piek – a baked coconut taro cake topped with crispy shallots and peanuts.
Seafood lovers must try out the Lobster-themed Dinner Buffet at Cafe Bela Vista, which also serves Portuguese, Macanese and various Asian delights. The buffet has limited vegetarian food, but you may order from the a la carte menu which has pasta, some Indian dishes and sandwiches.
Named after the famous Portuguese explorer, the Vasco is a stylish lounge and bar at Grand Lapa Macau. Currently, they have a Summer cocktails’ menu showcasing drinks like the RoselleTini – a mix of Roselle juice with Vodka. The Sangria list is impressive; the Mango Sangria in particular was refreshing.
Keep the kids entertained at the Kids Co., a great activity centre for children aged 3 to 12 years. Children can engage in cooking, painting and art classes, while you unwind at the spa or by the pool.
One of the most relaxing experience was the Summer Spa special which included a body scrub and a swedish massage. The masseur’s firm yet gentle strokes will have you sleeping like a baby in seconds! The spa also has a range of treatments which includes body wraps and scrubs, massages and couple treatments.
The free form pool at the resort with artificially created waterfalls is where you will end up spending a lot of time. For the kids, there’s also a kids’ pool with a water slide. The poolside has many sun beds and a few cabanas, where the staff serve you fruits on skewers and iced fruit juices as you soak in the sun. This kind of warm hospitality is what sets Grand Lapa apart from many of the larger hotels in Macau.
HKYantoyan’s take:
The Grand Lapa Macau is ideal for a family getaway. Being close to the ferry terminal it is easy and quick to reach the hotel after the 1-hour ferry ride. The suites are spacious and easily fit a family of three. With the availability of Kids Co., the Grand Lapa avails itself as a more family-friendly hotel than most others in Macau.
