Taj Express -The Bollywood Musical took everyone on a fantastical ride last night at the Lyric Theatre, HKAPA in Wan Chai – and by the end of the show – not a single person was left disappointed!
For those who are going to watch the show tonight (2nd December), you are in for a treat. The costumes, choices of songs, brilliant choreography, and the sheer energy of all the dancers will leave you mesmerised. There’s a bit of humour and satire, fourth wall breaking, live music, and a bit of yoga!
The show starts with a prayer with elegant classical dance by the cast dressed in spectacular golden costumes. The prayer soon turned to loud chants of ‘Jai Ho’ and the show takes off into glitzy and dreamy song and dance performances. Songs which stood out were ‘Humma Humma’, ‘Jai Shree Ganesha’, ‘Dhol Baje’ and ‘Wanna be my Chammak Challo’ which were all beautifully choreographed and brilliantly performed.
You really do not have to be a Bollywood fan to enjoy Taj Express. Throughout the show we are introduced to key characters who we begin to root for – even the villain! Hiten Shah (the hero, Arjun) stole the stage whenever he was on it. His infectious energy and charisma gave the show an electric feel. Tanvi Patil (Kareena Kaboom, the heroine) was elegant and graceful in her performances, and the narrative was well tied together by Mikhail Sen (Shankar) and by Chandan (Flash). The dances didn’t stop long after the fairy tale ending. The audiences were dancing in the aisles and clapping enthusiastically – it was truly an amazing experience watching the Taj Express stop at Hong Kong station!
