Hailing from a creative family, with a painter grandfather and a fashion pioneer father, Payal Singhal’s entry into fashion design was nothing but a natural one. Honoured with the “Designer of the Year” award at the early age of 15, there was no looking back for this aspiring young designer. After having established her brand in 2000 and having worked with the who’s who of Bollywood, such as Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Payal has come a long way. From stores all over Mumbai and Delhi to fashion weeks to independent collections, she’s done it all. Her most recent collection, India in Colour showcased at the Fall/Winter Lakmé India Fashion Week focused on a celebration of colours, inspired from different parts of the country.

Using pinks inspired from Rajasthan with bright and vibrant colours from the North of India to warmer and gentler tones of the East, Payal brought an array of colours to the ramp. She used colours such as cyan, fuchsia, indigo and cobalt on kurtas, kaftans, ghargras as well as saris, all ornately designed with zardozi, peeta and abhla work and embroidery. The showstoppers were singer and model Shibani Dandekar and dancer Puneet Pathak, dance couple of Jhalak Dikhlaja fame. Shibani was seen wearing an off-white mirror-work asymmetrical lehenga, accessorized with colourful bangles. Puneet on the other hand, was in a white silk kurta with gold patialas, paired with a colourful chunni around the neck.

The India in Colour collection by Payal Singhal was appreciated both on and off the ramp and Payal continues to enhance her collections with intricate designs, with fine finishing and elegant detail.
