HKYantoYan Reviews: Iyara’s Day Spa

By on October 15, 2015

While travelling up and down the Mid Levels escalators, you would certainly have peeked through the glass windows of Iyara’s Day Spa, through which you can observe customers reveling in bliss while they get their mani-pedis done. I decided to make the long overdue trip by popping over to their first 100% organic & chemical-free branch, which opened on Hollywood Road more than a year ago. There, I tried out their intense hair nourishing and facial treatments.

Iyara’s Natural and Organic Spa – The Place

If there were three words to describe Iyara’s Day Spa, it would be: Calm, Fragrant and Clean. Iyara’s feels like an urban retreat, bereft of the sound, pollution and chaos that plagues fast-paced Hong Kong. The spa offers all the basic services for your nails, body, face and hair, using 100% organic and natural products. At the billing counter, I noticed that most of the guests were members, which snagged them discounts of over 25%. This excellent win-win strategy makes organic treatments accessible at affordable prices.

After filling out a detailed evaluation form, I was recommended by the therapist that the Marma Herbal Nourishing Scalp Mask was the most appropriate treatment for my oily and chemically treated hair, while the Sundari Signature facial was the best remedy for my face.

Scalp detox with nourishing avocado and honey scalp mask

The therapist applied a mix of Siam botanical coconut/curry leaf oil & Marma Samunprai Organic Oil in my hair, which possessed a refreshing and cooling sensation. This was followed by a relaxing head massage.

After this, raw honey (for its hydrating and healing properties) and apricot oil (for its nourishing and restorative properties) were massaged gently into my hair. A rich, freshly crushed avocado mixture mask was then applied throughout the length of my hair. This delicious concoction, oozing with goodness, was then left wrapped up in my hair to do its restorative magic, as I was escorted to the facial room. You are required to let it stay on for a minimum of half an hour. During this time, a complimentary shoulder and neck massage can be enjoyed.

Sundari Signature Facial

Then, it was time for the Sundari Signature facial. Sundari is an organic brand of skincare from the U.S., based on the Ayurveda’s use of therapeutic-grade essential oils. It was here that I was exposed to this brand for the first time, and the feeling and smell across their entire product range was exquisite. I definitely intend to explore using this brand more.

Based on my skin analysis and ‘doshas’ assessment, the therapist blended a custom selection of ingredients for my skin. She gently and meticulously cleaned my skin and followed up with an intensive exfoliation, which got the skin ready for nutrient infusion. The masque applied felt soothing and nourishing to the skin. The facial massage, which was applied across my face and around my scalp, was based on pressure point and lymphatic stimulation. My skin immediately felt clearer and fresher, and the post-facial glow lasted for weeks.

It was now time to wash off the hair mask. The therapist gently washed my hair in room temperature water with an organic shampoo and conditioner, and blow dried them under medium heat to the healthiest condition I have ever seen them in. Achieving this beautiful glow in a 100% natural and organic way was a definite bonus!

The Nourishing Scalp Mask in Mara Hair Retreat & Detox costs $900 for medium hair (30 minutes + 60 minutes mask penetration). The Sundari Signature Facial (60 mins) costs $980.
