The First Decade

Khiladi (1992)

Directed by Abbas Mustan, Khiladi marked as a breakthrough for Akshay on the silver screen. Playing the role of a notorious, prankster college boy, lead to a series of Khiladi movies for him within this decade itself. Hence, referred to as the Khiladi of Bollywood! Being a suspense thriller, this movie honestly turned out to be an all-rounder. With hit songs like “Khud Ko Kya Samajhti Hai” & “Wada Raha Sanam”, good comedy and Kumar’s jampacked action, this movie will never fail to entertain you.


Yeh Dillagi (1994)

 Different from all his other roles, here we get to see him play the role of a simple businessman. As the movie progresses, he falls in love with a girl who is already being wooed by his brother; creating a crazy love triangle. With a captivating and super convincing plot, this Yash Chopra produced film landed Akki his first Filmfare nomination for the Best Actor.


Hera Pheri (2000)

A remake of a 1989 legendary Malayalam film Ramji Rao Speaking, Hera Pheri too turned out to be a benchmark for the comedy genre in Bollywood. This Priyadarshan directed film had Akshay Kumar stared besides Paresh Rawal and Sunil Shetty. Having his comic knack shine like never before, the trio’s teamwork turned out to be impeccable. Even today, you will find yourself laughing out loud while watching this movie.


Ajnabee (2001)

 After being ridiculed for a poor role play as a villain, Kumar shut everyone’s mouth with his award-winning villain role in Ajnabee. Another movie directed by Abbas Mustan that got our Khiladi back with a boom. This thriller movie was bold enough to pop up the wife swap scenario in a conservative Indian environment and it also had the one of the most satisfying death scenes. Oh! Just realized the dark comments. Anyway, wash it down with Mehbooba Mehbooba, a trendy song from the movie.
