We are very excited for the upcoming Andy Serkis’ Mowgli hitting theatres on 19th Oct. The director is giving a dark twist to Rudyard Kipling’s classic ‘The Jungle Book’. The Disney adaptation of The Jungle Book (2016) was a blockbuster hit with $966 million globally. And Andy Serkis’ diabolical version of this classic is making all fans excited to delve more in to Kipling’s book and explore the journey of Mowgli as an outsider trying to find its identity.
On IMDB, Serkis gives his commentary on the trailer: “The Jungle Book has had many interpretations, but what we’re doing with this movie is setting it very, very closely to the tone and the period that it was written in – in the late 19th century, in colonial India.”
Here are few highlights we have discovered from the trailer:
- It stars impressive roster of stars like Christian Bale, Cate Blanchett, Benedict Cumberbatch, Freida Pinto and Rohan Chand
- Motion capture and live action are blended for this film – a new, big screen, 3D adaptation
- Mowgli’s locked in a cage and the villains in the film are Mowgli’s own breed – Humans than the usual fear of Shere Khan
- This film is more authentic to the classic book than the Disney’s adaptation
- The visuals are spectacular with some heart-thumping background score by British Indian musician Nitin Sawhney
Warner Bros have also released the making of the film which is equally interesting to watch. “We wanted to engage much more closely to the tone of the book,” Serkis says in a voice-over. “It’s not so much a child’s fairytale, it has a reality to it. This is very much drawn from (Rudyard) Kipling and has a much darker approach to the storytelling,” he continues, and says, “There’s no singing and dancing from the animals, that’s for sure.”
