New Spanish Tapas restaurant & Sangria bar Tapagria has one of the best views in Kowloon. Located on the 18th floor of THE ONE shopping mall in Tsim Sha Tsui, the restaurant offers breath taking views of the Hong Kong Skyline and is great for impressing your friends and clients from abroad, specially when seated in the outdoor area.
With Tapas restaurants opening by the bulk in Hong Kong, the true essence of the cuisine is being watered down. But the Tapagria (Tapas + Sangria) is all about the true essence of Spanish food, and not what it’s sadly come to be.
As you enter, the first thing you notice is the huge bar area with marble finish. This restaurant is quite big, by Hong Kong standards. The DJ booth high up with faux fireplace around it makes the restaurant look like it was meant to be a club, then someone had a change of mind.
We sampled an array of tapas which ranged from classic to contemporary. The first to come was the chilled soup ‘Ajoblanco‘ made from Spanish green apple, asparagus, langoustines and almonds, with the latter being the main flavour. Chilled soup might not sound too appetizing, but this soup is light and a nice blend of savory and sweet.
Next up is ‘Coca’ Catalan Pizza, a must have for vegetarians. This long bread pizza comes with a generous black truffle topping. See the picture to believe it.
One of our favorite tapas was the Spanish White Ham with Melon. Rather than the usual ‘ham rolled up in some melon‘, you get balls of melon with a melon puree. This way you can decide how much melon flavor you want with your ham. Quite creative.
Getting to more meaty stuff, the Grilled Iberico Pork Ribs Skewers with “Samfaina” is something you must try if you are a non-vegetarian. Samfaina or ratatouille adds more weight to this dish and the ham is succulent and smokey flavored.
Octopus is a creature which better be cooked to perfection or best left alone. The Small Octopus with Onion, Green Pears & Carrots in Beer sauce is just that, perfection.
Continuing with the sea fare, the Pan Fried Snapper with Light Spicy Tomato & Mango Salsa is a healthy choice, if you are into that sort of eating. The mango salsa goes quite brilliantly with the saltiness of the fish.
What’s better than fried egg for a Sunday brunch? Organic Fried egg with truffle on a bed of fried potatoes! Value for money right there.
Tapagria Spanish Executive Chef Quim Hernández prepares the Seafood and Meat Paella daily. The dish is kept on a massive pan which is on show at the bar. This single dish brings the classic Spanish charm to the resto-bar.
Tapagria is a resto-bar which has the right balance of a lot of things. You see a right balance of the classic Spanish fare with more contemporary, the balance between food & drinks, outdoor & indoor seating, location and views but most importantly, quality and pricing.
