Otto Lounge: Shisha, Drink and Chill!

By on November 15, 2015

When I moved to Hong Kong back in 2013, one of my concerns was – can I get shisha at a restaurant/bar in Hong Kong? With shisha (or hukka as it is more popularly called back in India) being banned in most Indian cities, I was hoping it was more readily available here. I was quite pleased with the availability of shisha in Hong Kong but the quality at most of the places I have tried out have not been up to the mark. The quest for the perfect shisha in Hong Kong led me to Otto Lounge, located in the heart of Lan Kwai Fong. With dim lighting and dark colored interiors the place gives you a ghetto vibe. We chose to sit indoors as the seats seemed more comfortable.

Shisha at Otto Lounge

Our drink for the night was Otto Lounge’s signature, Hook Up. Infused with strawberries and mint, this rum cocktail was refreshing and delicious.

Hook Up

Finally it was time to dive into some shisha. Being the only ones in the city using the fabulous Lavoo shisha, Otto Lounge prides itself in the shisha they serve. With flavors like Spiced Chai, Caramel Macchiato and White Gummy Bear you may think you have got the wrong menu but don’t worry, Otto Lounge offers a lot more than just the traditional flavors, making the experience more interesting. With a little hesitation, we ordered the highly recommended Mint Chocolate Chill. With one puff of the shisha I knew we had struck gold. The quality of smoke is thick, but not heavy to cause irritation in your throat. The chocolate flavor plays mind games as you feel like you are inhaling chocolate! It took me sometime to get used to not swallowing the imaginary chocolate after every puff. With the addition of mint, the smoke has a cooling and fresh feel to it.

The shisha is compact and easily placed on the table so you don’t have to worry about it toppling over. Also, you can see your friends without having to tilt your head at awkward angles around the big shisha on the table! What we loved most was that the shisha never died. It lasted more than an hour (for 2 people) and we did not ask for a coal change.

Shisha in Hong Kong

Otto Lounge is small and tends to get crowded over the weekends. So to enjoy an evening with cocktails and shisha head to Otto Lounge on a weeknight. But if music and dancing is your scene then Otto Lounge is your answer for a fun weekend. As for me, I think I can safely say that my quest for the perfect shisha in Hong Kong has now ended.
