In the recent years, Sheung Wan has become a popular culinary hub in Hong Kong. It serves as a home to many cozy dining spots which also includes the trendy Italian restaurant 208 Duecento Otto on Hollywood Road.
Set in a two-storied venue with a New York vibe on the ground floor and a more private dining experience upstairs, both with outdoor seating. We were seated upstairs next to the window with a gorgeous view overlooking the bustling trendy streets of Sheung Wan on a Friday night. For a second, you may feel like you are in the meat packing district in NYC.
208’s menu is clearly well thought out, extensive and a blend between tradition and contemporary Italian food. We started out with the Burrata Cheese and Tomato appetizer served with balsamic vinegar. Burrata has an outer mozzarella shell stuffed with a hint of bitter mozzarella curds and cream on the inside. The Burrata was fresh and complimented well with semi-sweet tomatoes and vinegar.
The Tuna Tartare, the second appetizer is a mix of gherkins, olives and raw tuna topped with lemon pepper dressing. The pepper and lemon added a soft light flavour to the tuna, making it one of the most unique yet delightful appetizers.
The most popular dish on the menu, 208’s Roasted Chicken was succulent and flavorful. The citrus-oregano thin cut meat with hot roasted potatoes and savory greens was the highlight of the night. Highly recommended!
Soon came the dish I was most looking forward to: Black truffles on Butter Sauce Ricotta Ravioli. Traditionally, ricotta cheese filling with black truffles is an incredible ravioli dish. Now, the truffle aroma is subtle yet powerful at the same time, and when truffles are used in any dish, they always end up overpowering any other flavours involved, which might not be a good option for restricted palettes.
The menu also consists of delicious and authentic Napoletana pizzas with great options for vegetarians as well. 208’s pizzas are baked with buffalo mozzarella cheese with the most freshest and finest ingredients.
You can’t leave 208 without tasting the Tiramisu. The meal ended perfectly with the tiramisu served in a little glass, creamy, coffee flavored with the sponge cake soaked in espresso.
The food, ambiance and dessert was outstanding with excellent service and a friendly manager, making it a must visit Italian dining venue for all.
