Macallan sets a Guinness World Record

By on September 2, 2012

The oldest and rarest Macallan set a Guinness World Record for the most expensive whiskey sold at an auction. The 64-year-old bottle was sold for US$640,000. The whiskey may be the best you’ve ever tasted, but don’t let that detract you from the decanter. It’s truly one of a kind. It’s made out of stunning hand-crafted glass by French glass designer Lalique, famed for their perfume bottles.

Bidding for the bottle

This bottle, a collaboration between Macallan and Lalique, was taken on a 12-city tour around the world. The money raised from the tour equalled more than US$600,000, and it all went to charity:water, an organisation that provides access to clean drinking water to people in developing nations. The money provided about 30,000 people with clean water. That’s what I call whiskey with a conscience.
